Cincuenta años en el futuro, la vida tal como la conocemos está amenazada por la llegada del Mal. Solo el Quinto Elemento puede detener al Mal antes de que extinga la vida, como ha intentado hacer cada 5,000 años. Ella es asistida por un ex-comando de élite convertido en taxista, Korben Dallas, quien a su vez es ayudado por el clon de Príncipe/Arsenio, Ruby Rhod.
